Incidence And History
Approximately 90% of all women have some degree of cellulite, primarily in the areas of greatest fat deposition (hips, thighs, buttock, abdomen, posterior arms and back). Most people who suffer from this harmless condition would choose to have it treated if the treatment were simple, painless and inexpensive. Sadly, as mentioned above, diet and exercise alone rarely clear the condition and invasive surgery such as liposuction can actually make it worse! Numerous thigh creams, massagers, vibrators, botanical wraps, have been tried in the past, all with virtually insignificant long term benefits. For years women have looked for the Holy Grail of a fat melting procedure, only to be disappointed by each new passing fad that fails to produce the desired results. Understandably, skepticism about a successful treatment is very high.
Injection Mesotherapy
During the last 10-15 years French physicians, using a technique developed almost 50 years ago, have made |

some great strides towards achieving the goal of dissolving fat. Very small amounts of naturally occurring substances and minerals are injected into the fatty layer to reduce the bumpy areas in the rolling surface of cellulite deposits. This technique, called Mesotherapy, is thought to cause the inhibition of fat cells (or restrict accumulation of more fat within each cell), the breakdown of fat cells, the improvement of micro circulation and the mobilization of tissue fluid that has accumulated in the collagen cords. The clinical results thus far of more than a million people worldwide have been very promising, with extremely high patient satisfaction. The down side to this method is that it is necessary to have repeated injections into each site, weekly for 8-10 weeks. For example, each side of the buttock might require 50 injections. Unfortunately, this often causes moderate discomfort for the patient, some anxiety, and sometimes, small bruises or black-and-blue spots. Many patients choose not to have treatments during the warmer times of the year when they would most want to wear a bathing suit or shorts.
